E is that Sony produced an incredible display but failed spectacularlyto deliver a user experience commensurate with that level of quality. The TV is slow to respond to input, leading one to wonder if half of the remote control commands are being lost in the void. This issue is exacerbated by the remote relying on an infrared receiver with an unusually narrow sweet spot. Routine tasks like scrolling through pages of movies and TV shows are fraught with lag and visual stutter. Worse still, slow response times also plague functions like volume control that eallyneed to work reliably especially at night. And while these issues were present with the original A1. E firmware, they have only grown worse since the Android 7 upgrade. Many users and reviewers have been quick to point the finger at Android, alleging that Googles smart TV platform is simply incapable of delivering a snappy and fluid user experience. Given the abysmal performance of Android based televisions across the board, they could be forgiven for believing this. The reality is that Android, paired with adequate hardware, is perfectly capable of delivering a user experience on par with Web. OS, Apple TV, Amazon Fire itself based on Android, or any high end home theater PC. If you doubt this, you need only test drive n. Vidias Shield set top box to see how smooth and responsive Android TV can be. And while they are hardly alone in doing so, Sony very clearly sacrificed performance and usability to pad their already generous profit margins. Sony apparently believes their brand is strong enough, and their customers loyal enough, that it can weather any backlash from a delivering a sub par UX. They may be right. Regardless, I would urge prospective customers to consider whether they want to reward that kind of thinking. Sonys pairing of under powered hardware with such a fantastic display creates a dilemma for consumers. On one hand, the A1. E delivers improved motion processing and visual fidelity over its nearest competitors. On the other hand, actually singits smart TV features can be an exercise in frustration. Surely, even those among us who refuse any compromise in picture quality can agree when you spend upwards of 5,0. TV, that TV should not frequently annoy you. My recommendation is this if you can genuinely discern and appreciate the difference in picture quality between the Sony A1. E and other OLED displays, consider the Sony. But when you compare prices, factor in the added cost of a set top box like the n. Vidia Shield, Amazon Fire, or Apple TV once a 4. KHDR version is available. If you value your sanity as I do, youll want to avoid the built in smart TV features and delegate those responsibilities to a device with a more responsive interface. On the other hand, if you can discern no difference or only a marginal difference in picture quality between the LG and Sony sets, go with the considerably cheaper LG C7 or the slightly cheaper E7. LGs current OLED models differ primarily in built in speaker quality, and they all offer an enjoyable experience unencumbered by poor UX. I would give this TV 3. TV.
